Is Pixlr Worth It in 2026? Review, Pricing & a Free FunAI Option

Pixlr Review 2026: Features, AI Tools, Pricing, Pros & Cons, and the Best Alternative

Choosing the right photo editor can make a big difference when you create content for social media, websites, online stores or marketing campaigns. Pixlr has grown beyond a basic browser-based editor. It now pairs traditional editing tools with AI features for generating images, removing backgrounds, replacing objects and creating videos.

But is Pixlr worth using in 2026, especially if you want more than simple photo editing? And is there a better option for creating AI images, videos and other digital content?

This review covers Pixlr's key features, strengths, limitations, pricing and alternatives. It also looks at FunAI, an all-in-one AI creative platform that brings image generation, video creation, editing tools, models and ready-made templates into one workspace.

What Is Pixlr?

Pixlr is an online photo editing platform for people who want to edit images without installing complex desktop software. It combines traditional editing with AI-assisted creative features, which makes it useful for beginners, content creators, marketers and small businesses.

Depending on the tool you pick, Pixlr can help with:

  • Cropping, resizing and adjusting images.
  • Adding text, overlays and other design elements.
  • Removing unwanted backgrounds and objects.
  • Applying AI-powered edits and generative changes.
  • Creating images from text prompts.
  • Experimenting with face-swapping effects.
  • Generating short AI videos.

Convenience is Pixlr's main advantage, because you can handle many everyday edits directly in your browser. But if you mainly want to generate original AI artwork, animate images or try different AI models, a platform built around those workflows may suit you better.

For that kind of work, FunAI is worth exploring because it combines several AI tools in one environment.

Pixlr Review: Main Features Explained

1. Basic Photo Editing

Pixlr covers the essentials: cropping, resizing, color adjustments, and adding text or graphic elements. These tools help when you prepare blog images, social posts, thumbnails, product photos and simple promotional graphics. Browser-based editing is especially handy for a quick change when you do not want to open a full desktop application.

A traditional editor is less efficient, though, when the task is to create a brand-new image or transform an existing one with AI.

FunAI alternative: Use the FunAI Image Studio to explore AI image creation and editing. For more targeted changes, open FunAI Studio's image editing mode, or read about the AI image editor feature. If portraits are your focus, the skin enhancer handles natural-looking retouching.

These options matter most when your goal goes beyond adjusting an image and involves changing its look or generating a new creative direction.

2. AI Background and Object Removal

Background and object removal are among the most practical uses of AI in image editing. They help creators isolate products, clean up photos, remove distracting elements and prepare images for ads or online listings.

An online store owner might remove a messy background from a product photo. A social creator might remove an unwanted object before posting.

Automated editing saves time, but check the results carefully. Fine hair, transparent objects, complex edges, shadows and reflections are hard to process accurately.

FunAI alternative: Explore FunAI's AI tools for image transformation and creative utilities. The background changer swaps the backdrop while keeping your subject clean, and inpainting removes or replaces one area without touching the rest. You can also use FunAI Studio's image editor to modify an existing visual with an AI workflow.

Always inspect the final image before using it in professional marketing material, especially when product details and brand consistency matter.

3. Pixlr AI Image Generation Review

Pixlr's image generation lets you experiment with text prompts and create visuals without starting from a finished photo. That helps with early concepts, blog illustrations, social graphics, mood boards and creative experiments.

For example, you might enter a prompt like:

"A premium skincare bottle on a polished stone surface, soft morning sunlight, realistic reflections, elegant composition, and luxury editorial photography."

An AI image generator can turn that description into a visual concept, but the output may still need refinement. Check product shapes, small text, hands, facial details and reflections before using an image commercially.

If image generation is your main goal, compare Pixlr with a platform that gives you several AI models and different creative workflows.

FunAI alternative: Start with the FunAI Image Generator. The text to image generator page explains the workflow, and the model catalog shows the engines behind it, such as Nano Banana, Seedream 5.0 Pro and GPT Image 2.

FunAI suits creators who want to try different image styles, generate original concepts and keep refining without bouncing between unrelated platforms.

4. AI Face Swap and Portrait Editing

Face-swapping tools combine facial features from one image with another. People use them for entertainment, avatars, creative portraits and social content.

Pixlr's face-swap workflow aims to make this kind of transformation accessible without advanced photo manipulation skills. Still, the result depends on image quality, facial angle, lighting and how similar the source and target images are. Poor alignment can produce unnatural edges, inconsistent skin tones or mismatched shadows.

For portraits, review the final image at full size rather than judging it from a small preview.

FunAI alternative: Visit FunAI's creative tools to explore image transformation features, including image swap, which is built around keeping identity consistent. You can also browse FunAI templates for ready-made effects and styles, or try the AI cloth changer and photo to anime generator for a different look.

When you work with real people's faces, use images responsibly and get permission where needed.

5. Pixlr AI Video Generation Review

AI video takes Pixlr beyond still-image editing. Users can explore workflows that turn prompts or images into moving scenes, which helps with short social clips, product concepts, creative experiments and promotional content.

A product photo, for example, could start a video prompt like:

"Create a slow cinematic camera push-in toward the product, with soft reflections moving across the glass, subtle background motion, and premium commercial lighting."

AI video needs extra quality checks because the subject must stay consistent across frames. Watch for distorted shapes, changing product labels, flickering details, unnatural movement and inconsistent backgrounds. One generation is rarely enough for a polished result, so comparing several outputs is worthwhile.

FunAI alternative: Try the FunAI Image-to-Video Generator to animate still images. To start from a written description instead, use the FunAI Text-to-Video Generator. Under the hood you can pick engines like Kling 3.0 Pro or Seedance, and the video upscale tool sharpens the final clip.

These tools let you move from a visual concept to a video without organizing a full shoot.

6. FunAI Templates: A Faster Way to Create Visual Content

The hardest part of AI creative tools can be knowing where to begin. Writing prompts, choosing styles and adjusting settings takes time, especially with a new type of content. Ready-made templates give you a starting point for a particular style or effect.

FunAI's template collection includes creative presets and video-oriented effects for exploring different looks and remixing existing concepts. You can browse the collection here:

Explore FunAI Templates and Viral Presets

Templates are particularly useful for:

  • Creating social content with trending visual styles.
  • Exploring cinematic looks and stylized effects.
  • Producing creative portraits and character-based visuals.
  • Experimenting with video transformations.
  • Getting inspiration when you are unsure what prompt to write.

Instead of building every project from scratch, start from an existing template and adapt the idea to your subject or campaign. For regular content creators, pairing templates with the FunAI Studio gives a flexible starting point for image projects, and the viral video presets do the same for video.

7. FunAI Studio: Create and Edit in One Workspace

Pixlr mixes traditional editing with AI features. FunAI instead brings different AI creative workflows together on one platform. The FunAI Studio gives you dedicated tools for image generation and editing, while the wider platform adds video, audio and other creative options.

Here are the most relevant links for different tasks:

This setup helps when a project has several stages: generate an image, edit it, improve its resolution, then animate it into a short video. Available models, tools and usage limits can vary, so check the relevant Studio page before you start.

Pixlr Pricing: Is a Paid Plan Worth It?

Whether Pixlr is worth paying for depends on how often you use it and which features you need. The plan screen shows three tiers (verify against Pixlr's current pricing page):

Plan Monthly price AI credits per month
Plus $2.49 80
Premium $9.99 1,000
Ultra from $24.99 up to 10,000

Pixlr pricing plans: Plus, Premium and Ultra

Before upgrading, consider:

  • Editing frequency: Do you regularly crop, resize and adjust images?
  • AI usage: Do you generate images or use AI editing tools often?
  • Credits and limits: Will your usage exceed the free plan's allowances?
  • Export requirements: Do you need particular resolutions or export options?
  • Workflow efficiency: Would a paid plan genuinely save you time?

Pixlr's plans and limits can change, so check the official pricing page before subscribing. Do not pick a plan just because it advertises more AI features. Focus on the tools you will actually use.

FunAI is another option to evaluate if your work includes image generation, AI video, creative templates and other AI workflows. It has a free plan to start, and the FunAI pricing page lists the current tiers, including 4K output and a commercial license on the Pro plan.

The best choice fits your real workload and budget. If you can, test the free options first and compare results before committing to a subscription.

Pixlr Pros and Cons

Pros of Pixlr

  • Browser-based editing is convenient for everyday tasks.
  • Essential editing features are accessible to beginners.
  • AI tools can simplify background cleanup and object removal.
  • Image generation offers a way to explore creative concepts.
  • AI video and face-swap features extend it beyond basic editing.

Cons of Pixlr

  • The interface may feel crowded to users who only need simple tools.
  • AI-generated images can need extra refinement.
  • Portraits, product details and small text may need careful inspection.
  • AI video outputs can be inconsistent across frames.
  • Paid-plan value depends on how often you use credits and advanced features.

Pixlr vs. FunAI: Which Platform Should You Choose?

Pixlr and FunAI serve overlapping but different creative needs. The right choice depends on whether you mainly edit existing images or want to create new AI-powered content.

Why FunAI Is a Strong Alternative to Pixlr

If your main goal is to create AI images and videos rather than just edit photographs, FunAI is a strong alternative worth considering. There are three main reasons.

1. Multiple Creative Workflows in One Place

FunAI brings image creation, image editing, video generation and other AI tools together. That can reduce the need to move between separate services when a project needs several kinds of output.

2. Templates for Quicker Experimentation

The FunAI Templates library gives you a starting point for creative effects and visual styles. Templates help when you want inspiration or a faster way to explore a look.

Rather than starting from the homepage each time, go straight to Image Studio, image editing or image upscaling. For video, open the Image-to-Video Generator or Text-to-Video Generator.

For people who regularly make social posts, marketing visuals, product concepts or AI videos, this consolidated approach may be more convenient than relying on an editor alone. Marketers can also draft campaigns with the AI ad maker.

Pixlr can still be the better fit if your everyday work is conventional photo adjustment. However, FunAI is our recommended starting point for AI-first image and video creation, especially when you want to experiment with several creative workflows in one place. New to it? The studio guide walks through your first generation.

Tips for Getting Better Results From AI Creative Tools

Whichever platform you choose, a few habits improve your output.

Write Specific Prompts

Describe the subject, setting, lighting, composition, style and intended use. A detailed prompt usually gives clearer direction than a short description with no visual context.

Use High-Quality Reference Images

When a tool accepts image uploads, choose a clear reference with good lighting and visible detail. The quality of your source material affects the final result.

Review the Output Carefully

Check faces, hands, text, object edges, shadows and product details. For video, watch the entire clip for flickering, unwanted movement and changes in the subject's appearance.

Experiment With Templates

If you are unsure how to describe a style, start with a FunAI template and use it as inspiration for your next creation.

Match the Tool to the Task

Use an image editor for straightforward corrections, an image generator for new visuals, an upscaler for resolution improvements and a video generator when you need motion. Choosing the right workflow avoids unnecessary steps.

PART 2: PUBLISHING NOTES (DO NOT PUBLISH)

What changed from your draft

  • Host fixed. Six links in your draft (image-to-video and text-to-video) used https://www.funai.art/features/.... Every other link used https://funai.art/. They are now all non-www, so the post is consistent with your other posts. (See audit item 4: you still need to pick one host sitewide.)
  • Headings. Section headings are now real H2/H3 headings instead of bold lines, so the post has a proper outline for search engines and the table of contents. The wording is unchanged.
  • Links added. The draft had 9 distinct FunAI URLs. This version adds links to the features hub, edit-image, skin-enhancer, text-to-image-generator, image-swap, photo-to-anime, video-upscale, three model pages, Seedance, viral video presets, background changer, inpainting, cloth changer, AI ad maker, studio guide, pricing, model catalog, and a "Related Reviews" block with three blog posts.
  • Weak anchor fixed. "FunAI AI image and editing workspace" linked to the bare homepage. It now links to the text-to-image generator page and the model catalog, which are more specific.
  • Pricing section. Your draft showed only a screenshot. I added a short table read from that screenshot (Plus $2.49, Premium $9.99, Ultra from $24.99; 80, 1,000 and up to 10,000 credits). The screenshot is small, so verify the numbers against Pixlr's pricing page. I also added a sentence about FunAI's free plan and Pro-plan 4K and commercial license, which matches your homepage.
  • Kept as is: every point, every FAQ, the example prompts and the "FunAI is our recommended starting point" line. Your rule of using the separate /templates URL for templates and the FunAI Studio URL for the studio is followed throughout.
  • Images. The three images in your .docx (editor with cat cut-out, photo upload screen, pricing plans) are referenced by placeholder file names with descriptive alt text. Upload them to your CMS and replace the file names.

Fact-check before posting (I did not verify these)

  • Pixlr's current pricing and credits, and whether it still offers a free plan.
  • That Pixlr currently offers AI video and face swap, as your draft states.
  • The three Related Reviews posts. I opened only the Magic Hour post. Clipdrop and Remaker are matched by slug, so confirm the topics fit.
  • The cloth changer URL (/studio/tools/cloth-changer) comes from your homepage. It is not in the sitemap or footer.

Not linked yet: your DeeVid review. It is not live, so linking to it now would give a 404. Once it is published, add it to Related Reviews.

PART 3: FUNAI.ART SITE AUDIT

Scope. I read the homepage, sitemap.xml (twice, with no change since the DeeVid audit), the blog index, the models catalog, the features hub, the tools hub and the Magic Hour review post. The sitemap lists about 65 URLs and I did not open every one, so this is a targeted audit, not a full crawl. I used a page fetcher, not Googlebot. Confirm anything marked "empty" with Google Search Console URL Inspection before acting.

High priority

# Finding Evidence Fix
1 Blog index and model catalog came back empty. /blog showed "No stories found". /models showed "Couldn't load the catalog… The model service didn't respond" with 0 models. Server-render the first page of both lists with plain <a href> links so crawlers can reach every post and model from the HTML.
2 Sitemap leaves out whole sections. No /models/image/... or /models/video/... pages, no /models/image, /models/video, /models/audio hubs, and no /studio/tools/* pages, all of which your footer links. Add them. Model pages carry your per-model SEO titles and descriptions, so they belong in the sitemap.
3 Invalid sitemap URL. https://www.funai.art/blog/tensor art review contains spaces. Rename the slug to tensor-art-review, 301 the old URL and update the sitemap.
4 www and non-www are mixed. The homepage canonical is https://funai.art/. The blog, models, features and tools hubs and the sitemap use https://www.funai.art/.... Pick one host, 301 the other, align canonicals and sitemap, and update internal links. If you choose www, it is a find-and-replace on https://funai.art/ in post bodies.
5 Duplicate or overlapping feature pages. The sitemap lists cinematic-image-generator and cinematic-image, ai-mockup-generator and mockup-generator, and overlap between create-image and text-to-image-generator. The features hub does not list cinematic-image or mockup-generator, so they may be orphans. Merge each pair into one page, 301 the other and keep the hub as the single list.

Medium priority

# Finding Evidence Fix
6 Blog posts do not link to each other, and the homepage links to no posts. The Magic Hour post links only to product pages and /blog. The homepage has no blog module. Add a related-posts block to the post template and a "Latest guides" row on the homepage. Part 4 lists specific links.
7 Social meta on the blog template is wrong. On the Magic Hour post, twitter:title and twitter:description carry the homepage text, og:description is empty, and og:image is the custom cover while og:image:secure_url is the generic image. Fix the template so each post's own title, description and cover feed all of them.
8 Feature pages and tool pages compete for the same topic. /features/inpaint and /studio/tools/image-inpainting, /features/style-transfer and /studio/tools/ai-style-transfer, /features/text-to-speech and /studio/tools/text-to-speech, /features/background-changer and /studio/tools/ai-background-changer. The footer sends users to the tool pages, while the sitemap lists only the feature pages. Decide which page should rank. Keep the other as a call-to-action target and canonical or noindex it if needed. Point blog links at the ranking one.
9 Posts lean on parameterized studio URLs. Links such as ?mode=edit, ?mode=upscale, ?mode=animate_image, ?model=seedance and ?tab=community are not in the sitemap. Check their canonical tags. If they canonicalize to the base URL or are noindex, they pass little SEO value. Keep them for conversion and add the /features/... page as a second link where natural, as Part 1 does.
10 Two "how to use" pages. The sitemap has /how-to-use/how-to-use and /how-to-use-funai-art-studio. The footer links the second. Keep one and 301 the other.

Low priority and trust signals

# Finding Evidence Fix
11 Model counts disagree. Homepage hero says 1500+ models, the footer says 150+, and the homepage catalog section says 24. Use one number sitewide or label what each counts.
12 Some labels and links mislead. Footer "Mid Journey" links to /studio/image. A tile labeled "GPT-5 Vision" links to model=gpt-image-1. "Seedream 5.0" carries the brand label "SEEDANCE". Rename the labels or point them at matching pages.
13 Placeholder-looking testimonials and unverified claims. Homepage reviews include "Jhon Doe" with placeholder avatars from pravatar.cc. The page claims "130 million+ creators". Social icons link to bare facebook.com, x.com, instagram.com and pinterest.com. Use real quotes with permission, support or soften the creator count, and link real brand profiles.
14 Review titles share a template. The Magic Hour title is "Pros, Cons & Best Alternative". Other "-review" slugs likely follow it, though I opened only one. Vary title and meta wording across posts.

What is working

  • The footer carries a consistent set of links to the features hub, tools hub, model pages, pricing, blog and guide on every page.
  • The features hub links to every feature landing page, which are the pages worth linking from blog posts.
  • The Magic Hour post shows a good in-body linking pattern: model links, tool links and a comparison table with links in the cells.

The new post links out to three blog posts. To pass authority back, add links from other pages to it. Slug assumed: https://funai.art/blog/pixlr-review.

Add the link on Where Anchor text Suggested sentence
/blog/clipdrop-review Alternatives or verdict section Pixlr review "Prefer an editor with a longer toolbar? See our Pixlr review."
/blog/magic-hour-ai-review (verified) Final Verdict Pixlr review "For a browser editor with AI add-ons, read our Pixlr review."
/blog/remaker-ai-review Where face swap is discussed Pixlr face swap "Pixlr's face-swap workflow is covered in our Pixlr review."
/blog/star-by-face-review Alternatives section Pixlr review "Another all-in-one editor is covered in our Pixlr review."
/blog/ai-video-tools-for-marketing-ads-in-2026 Tools roundup Pixlr AI video "Pixlr's AI video features are reviewed in our Pixlr review."
/features/edit-image A "From the blog" line at the bottom Pixlr review "Comparing editors? Read our Pixlr review."
/studio/tools/ai-background-changer A "From the blog" line background removal in Pixlr "See how Pixlr handles background and object removal."

Two site-wide changes would multiply this: a related-posts block on every blog post (audit item 6) and a "Latest guides" row on the homepage that links the newest posts.
